During the final day of NIC 2014 you have the unique opportunity to follow the creation of a new company, the fictive ViaMonstra organization. In five continuous sessions, top gurus Kent Agerlund, Mikael Nystrom and Johan Arwidmark, will implement, live on stage, a dynamic infrastructure based on Windows Server 2012 R2 and ConfigMgr 2012 R2. Join us for a day and learn how we build the Datacenter @ ViaMonstra from nothing to a powerful System Management solution that allows for modern management and meets the increasing demands of today and tomorrow.
You can expect a lot of tips and tricks, and live demos in this session!
Background info to ViaMonstra
ViaMonstra is a midsized company with 6,500 users. There is one datacenter based in New York and several remote offices in the United States and Europe. ViaMonstra currently doesn’t use any standardized system management solution. Decisions have been made to standardize and automate the company’s desktop and server management. The future management solution is Microsoft System Center 2012 R2, Windows 8.1 based on Windows Server 2012 R2 and Hyper-V. On top of the company platform, it has also been decided to allow BYOD. This means ViaMonstra besides Windows 8.1 also have to deal with other operating systems and must provide a solid management solution for that.
To assist with designing and building the infrastructure, ViaMonstra has decided to summon the SWAT team Mikael Nyström, Johan Arwidmark and Kent Agerlund. Why? you might wonder, Why is ViaMonstra not doing it by them self? That’s because management know, consulting with real world experts is always cheaper in the long run!
Session 01: Building the Next Generation Datacenters
The time has come, Join Mikael Nystrom in this very demo intense session where you will learn how to build the next generation datacenters. In this session Mikael will show you how to design it and how to build it and of course how to expose it so that the customers or users can consume resources in your datacenter while you enjoy the noise from the servers. You will also learn how to connect you to the internet using the new Multitenant Gateway, how to configure fabric resources in System Center Virtual Machine Manger and of course how to configure Windows Azure Pack! The demos are based on real life experience!
Session 02: Deploying Hyper-V and Storage in the Datacenter
Deploying Hyper-V hosts and storage servers are not the same anymore. Using System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 you can now deploy compute units and storage units and then of course manage them. In this very demo intense session you will learn how to master it so you can do it on your own. All demos are of course based on real life experience.
Session 03: Unified Device Management
Like many other organizations ViaMonstra is facing a daily challenge with managing a variety of devices from different vendors and with different operating systems. This session will cover how you can unleash the unified device management power of Configuration Manager 2012 R2 and get control of your Windows, Unix, MAC OSx computers, IOS, Windows Phones and Android devices. The session will be packed with demos where the keywords are Compliance Management, BYOD, Application Deployment, Client installation and much more
Session 04: Become the hero of the day, master ConfigMgr 2012 R2 with a limited budget and free community tools
No doubt that Configuration Manager 2012 R2 is a very powerful product that can be used “right out of the box”. But (yes, there is always a “but”) – with the help from the massive list of free community tools, you can take the standard features to a whole new level of automation. In this session, Kent Agerlund will demonstrate how to solve daily challenges like managing clients, software updates, operating system deployment, application management and possible much more using nothing but Configuration Manager and free tools – Expect a session full of demos.
Session 05: Deploying Windows 8.1 in the Enterprise
The demo spaceship has landed... Join Johan Arwidmark in an hour (plus) live demo on how to build a Windows 8.1 deployment solution, based on MDT 2013 and ConfigMgr 2012 R2. Learn about the new deployment features, learn about deploying to EUFI enabled hardware, Work with drivers, updates, and applications. All for the enterprise network. This is notes from the field, lessons learned from early adopters of Windows 8.1.
